Using History to Provide a Lens Into Today’s Politics

Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh, Vermont is a National Historic Landmark that served as a station on the Underground Railroad. The historic Robinson family homestead preserves the story of Vermont's role in the abolitionist movement and houses an extensive collection of letters, documents, and artifacts. Today, Rokeby also hosts an artist residency program that connects contemporary artists with this powerful history. These photographs for The New York Times document the museum's historic buildings, its director Jane Williamson, and artist Carol MacDonald working in her studio during her residency at this significant Vermont heritage site.
